Big Tea Town: ShiZhao 石卓

Our back road Route #159 eventually ended at ShiZhao 石卓, the big tea town of our AliShan Backroad Ride. ShiZhao was connected to Provincial Highway #18, thus it was busy and had several convenient stores for resupply.

If you rode on Provincial Highway #18, you will have to deal with those big buses and cars.

The area near Provincial Highway #18 was messy and noisy. Thus I took the local road towards a local elementary school to rest and release my drone for some nice shots.

To the Other Side: TaiHo Village

Having enough of  FenChiHu Station and the crowd, we continued bike up the hill and went to the other side of the mountain. Unexpected great views awaited for our AliShan Backroad Ride!

To Route #166

As we continued our journey north, we eventually passed through a tunnel and again to another side of mountain, onto Route #166, the road we went before on our MeiShan trip.

Verdict

AliShan Backroad Ride was probably the route with all the best element combination. You’ve got quiet roads, great green mountains, tea fields, forest train station, and stunning TaiHo village views.

With that being said, the prone rock slide area was still a big concern for this route. This route is definitely only for winter time, and riders should also avoid the route during frequent earthquakes.
