Background
The South PingDong Ride was an experimental ride to explore the main PingDong region (besides the Kenting Area).
Originally the goal is to create a coastal ride. However PingDong’s coast did not live up my standards, and thus in the future more exploration will be focused at mountain regions, which have lots of interesting aboriginal cultures.
Start: DaPeng Bay 大鵬灣
Our South PingDong Ride started at DaPeng Way, a famous place in Taiwan for racing tracks. There was a cycling path around the Bay.
PingDong was at tropical area, thus the tropical trees.
Cycling track entrance.
DaPeng Bay’s wetland.
Emptied harbor.
At the Bay’s exit there was a cool bridge.
Bridge’s control tower.
Bay’s exit.
After the bridge we headed towards DongGang (東港), the main fishing town in this area.
Not very pretty coast.
Don’t know why the beach was closed…
The main temple next to the shore.
Cool stone lion furnace.
Here the temple always had a boat rod-like structure.
Temple’s little stone garden.
Fish themed ceiling.
DongGang 東港
After the temple our South PingDong Ride headed into the main DongGang town area. As DongGang’s harbor is a far sea harbor, the harbor area was more for the fishing activities than for tourism.
Nets and container warehouses?
Local elementary with sea theme decoration.
Not sure who this guy was.
Going into main town!
Near the town center was the big DongLong Temple (東港東隆宮), famous for its god-welcoming and farewell ritual by burning a wooden boat once every 3 years.
Temple’s main gate.
The Boat King.
While the temple was over 300 years old, the front decoration was really not cool.
Boat pole structure.
Somebody was selling eagles!
After the main town , we continued towards the northern part of DongGang harbor.
…Not sure what this was for.
The main fish auction place!
Tuna Offloading!
At the fish auction place, I happened to encounter the tuna offloaded event!
Frozen tuna carried by earth mover.
Tunas were transported from the boat onto platform by the channel.
Something was happening there…
PingDong Country Ride
Having enough of DongGang, our South PingDong Ride continued towards the country side of PingDong.
